Before you leave Cyprus
- Residence and tax — Tell the tax department of your departure and update your tax residence, and — if you hold a residence permit — inform the Civil Registry and Migration Department that you are leaving.
- Social insurance — Check your social insurance position if you have worked in Cyprus, and keep a record of your contributions.
- Your Cyprus-registered vehicle — A car leaving Cyprus for good is deregistered for export with the Road Transport Department. Cypriot cars are right-hand drive: shipping one to the UK can make sense; to continental Europe, check registration first.
- Leaving an island — Your belongings leave Cyprus by sea container, usually from Limassol, before continuing by road at destination. Allow extra time compared with a mainland move.
- Contracts and subscriptions — Cancel or transfer electricity, internet, mobile and insurance contracts in good time, and keep the final bills as proof of your departure date.
Exporting your belongings from Cyprus
To another EU country: if Cyprus and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.
To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Cyprus on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.
Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.
Cyprus is in the EU: moves to another EU country need no customs formalities. Moves to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway or outside Europe require an export declaration, which we file before departure. Containers usually leave from Limassol.

How the price of your move from Cyprus is calculated
Like every international mover, we build your price from Cyprus from a few concrete factors:
- Volume — measured in cubic metres (m³) — the main cost driver. Our online volume calculator helps you estimate it room by room.
- Distance and route — from your origin address to your new home in Cyprus.
- Transport mode — shared load, dedicated truck, sea container (shared or exclusive) or air freight.
- Services — packing, furniture dismantling and reassembly, fragile item crating, storage, delivery to an island.
- Access — top-floor flats with no lift, narrow lanes, long carries, external hoists when the stairs will not do.
- Customs — brokerage, declaration and port handling charges on routes to Cyprus that cross a customs border.
- Insurance — a small percentage of the declared value — scalable to what you want covered.
Typical volumes, as a guide:
| Home | Typical volume |
|---|---|
| Studio | 10 to 15 m³ |
| 1-bedroom flat | 15 to 25 m³ |
| 2-bedroom home | 25 to 40 m³ |
| 3-bedroom home | 40 to 60 m³ |
| 4-bedroom house or larger | 60 m³ and more |
European road moves get a starting price straight from the estimator; everything else — sea, air, customs — is quoted in writing within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions
- Is there customs paperwork when moving to another EU country?
- No. Moves between EU countries involve no export declaration and no customs clearance.
- How long does a move from Cyprus to the UK take?
- Usually four to eight weeks door to door by sea container, plus customs clearance.
- I am moving back to the UK from Cyprus. What do I need?
- We file the export declaration. Before your goods arrive, you apply to HMRC for Transfer of Residence relief (ToR01) so your belongings can enter the UK duty-free.
- Can I take my car from Cyprus?
- Yes. It is deregistered for export, then registered in your new country. Cyprus drives on the left, so the UK is often the easiest destination for a Cypriot car.
- Can I send a few essentials by air?
- Yes. Air freight takes one to two weeks and suits a few cubic metres, while the rest travels by sea.
