Before you leave Luxembourg
- Declare your departure to your commune — Before you leave, you declare your departure to your commune's population office and receive a certificate. Keep it: destination authorities and customs may ask for it.
- Tax, health insurance and pension — Inform the tax administration of your departure, check your health insurance (CNS) position once your cover abroad is arranged, and keep a record of your pension contributions.
- Your Luxembourg-registered vehicle — A car leaving Luxembourg for good is deregistered with the national vehicle authority (SNCA) and its plates handed back. Your new country then registers it.
- Rental contract — Check the notice period in your lease, and plan the exit inventory before the keys are returned.
- Contracts and subscriptions — Cancel or transfer energy, internet, mobile and insurance contracts, and keep the final bills as proof of your departure date.
Exporting your belongings from Luxembourg
To another EU country: if Luxembourg and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.
To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Luxembourg on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.
Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.
Moves from Luxembourg to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, the United States, Canada or any other non-EU country require an export declaration, which we file before departure. Overseas containers usually leave from Antwerp or Rotterdam.
How a move from Luxembourg works
- Free quote. Give us your departure address, your new home in Luxembourg and a rough volume. We send an online estimate right away and a written quote within a day.
- Survey and planning. We validate the volume with you, pick the transport mode and go through the customs rules that apply on this route to Luxembourg.
- Packing and collection. A packing crew comes to your address, prepares every item and loads the truck or the container at your door.
- Transport. By road across Europe, or by sea container between continents — whichever best fits your route to Luxembourg.
- Customs clearance (where required). We prepare the export declaration in Luxembourg and the import file for your destination (Luxembourg export declaration for non-EU destinations).
- Delivery and set-up. Delivery to your new home, unpacking and furniture reassembly if included in your quote.
The same coordinator sees your move from Luxembourg through, from your first email to the keys being handed over.

How the price of your move from Luxembourg is calculated
Like every international mover, we build your price from Luxembourg from a few concrete factors:
- Volume — measured in cubic metres (m³) — the main cost driver. Our online volume calculator helps you estimate it room by room.
- Distance and route — measured on the actual road, from your door to your delivery address in Luxembourg.
- Transport mode — shared road load, a truck booked only for you, FCL or LCL by sea, or air for very small cargo.
- Services — packing, taking furniture apart and reassembling it, crating fragile pieces, storage, island delivery.
- Access — walk-up floors, pedestrian streets, long carries from the truck, and hoists where access is tight.
- Customs — clearance fees and port handling charges, where required by your route to Luxembourg.
- Insurance — a small percentage of the declared value — scalable to what you want covered.
Typical volumes, as a guide:
| Home | Typical volume |
|---|---|
| Studio | 10 to 15 m³ |
| 1-bedroom flat | 15 to 25 m³ |
| 2-bedroom home | 25 to 40 m³ |
| 3-bedroom home | 40 to 60 m³ |
| 4-bedroom house or larger | 60 m³ and more |
European road moves get a starting price straight from the estimator; everything else — sea, air, customs — is quoted in writing within 24 hours.
