Pick your origin country
Leaving a country has its own checklist: deregistering your address, closing contracts, exporting your car, and — when your new home is outside the EU — filing an export declaration. Pick the country you are leaving below to see the formalities that apply, how your belongings leave, and typical transit times to the most popular destinations.
What you'll find in each departure guide
- Before you leave — the registrations to cancel, the authorities to notify and the deadlines that matter in that country.
- Exporting your belongings — when an export declaration is needed, and from which ports overseas containers usually leave.
- Transit times — by road, sea and air, to the destinations people move to most often from that country.
- Your vehicle — how to deregister it for export before it is registered in your new country.
Leaving the EU, or moving within it?
If you move between two EU countries, there is nothing to declare at customs. If you move from the EU to the UK, Switzerland, Norway or another continent — or the other way round — your belongings are exported from one customs territory and imported into another. We file the export declaration before departure and prepare the import file for your destination, so the border is planned, not improvised. Our guide to transfer of residence relief explains how your used belongings enter duty-free when the conditions are met.
Moving from a country not listed yet?
We organise moves from 60+ countries. If your country of departure does not have its own guide yet, request a quote anyway: a coordinator checks the rules for your route and replies within 24 hours.
