Before you leave Greece
- Tax residence — If you leave Greece for good, update your tax residence with the tax administration (AADE) and check whether you need a tax representative in Greece.
- Your Greek-registered vehicle — A car leaving Greece for good is deregistered and its plates returned to the transport authority. Your new country then registers it under its own rules.
- Health, social security and utilities — Arrange health cover in your new country, inform social security if you have worked in Greece, and cancel electricity, water, internet and phone contracts.
- Moving from an island — From Crete or the islands, your belongings first travel by ferry to the mainland. Ferry schedules, access in narrow village streets and the summer season all affect planning — tell us your island at quote stage.
- Proof of your Greek residence — Destination customs often ask for proof of how long you lived abroad: keep your lease, bills and employment records.
Exporting your belongings from Greece
To another EU country: if Greece and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.
To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Greece on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.
Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.
Moves from Greece to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, the United States, Canada or any other non-EU country require an export declaration, which we file before departure. Overseas containers usually leave from Piraeus or Thessaloniki.
How a move from Greece works
- Free quote. Give us your departure address, your new home in Greece and a rough volume. We send an online estimate right away and a written quote within a day.
- Survey and planning. We validate the volume with you, pick the transport mode and go through the customs rules that apply on this route to Greece.
- Packing and collection. Our local team packs, inventories and loads your belongings at your home in Greece.
- Transport. On the road for a European route, in a sea container across an ocean, or by air for small urgent shipments to Greece.
- Customs clearance (where required). When your route crosses a customs border, we file both sides: the Greece export and the import at your new country (Greek export declaration for non-EU destinations).
- Delivery and set-up. Delivery to your new home, unpacking and furniture reassembly if included in your quote.
One coordinator follows your move from Greece from the first call to the final delivery.

How the price of your move from Greece is calculated
We price every move from Greece with the same ingredients — nothing hidden, nothing improvised:
- Volume — measured in cubic metres (m³) — the main cost driver. Our online volume calculator helps you estimate it room by room.
- Distance and route — measured on the actual road, from your door to your delivery address in Greece.
- Transport mode — groupage, your own truck, shared or full container, air for urgent small shipments.
- Services — packing, taking furniture apart and reassembling it, crating fragile pieces, storage, island delivery.
- Access — walk-up floors, pedestrian streets, long carries from the truck, and hoists where access is tight.
- Customs — clearance fees and port handling charges, where required by your route to Greece.
- Insurance — a small percentage of the declared value — scalable to what you want covered.
