Before you leave Norway

  • Report your move abroad — If you are moving abroad for more than six months, you report your move to the Norwegian Tax Administration (Folkeregisteret) before you leave.
  • Your Norwegian-registered vehicle — A car exported from Norway is deregistered and declared for export. If it is under 10 years old and was first registered in Norway on or after 26 June 2014, you may be able to claim back part of the one-off registration tax.
  • Tax, pension and NAV — Check your tax position on leaving, and your pension and social security entitlements with NAV if you have worked in Norway.
  • Contracts and subscriptions — Cancel or transfer electricity, broadband, mobile and insurance contracts, and keep the final bills.
  • Proof of residence for duty-free import — Your destination will usually admit your used belongings duty-free if you lived outside it for 12 months and owned them for 6 months. Keep your lease, bills and employment records.

Exporting your belongings from Norway

To another EU country: if Norway and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.

To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Norway on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.

Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.

Norway is outside the EU customs union: every move from Norway to another country is an export followed by an import. We file the Norwegian export declaration and the import at destination — usually duty-free for household goods if you move your main home. Overseas containers usually leave from Oslo or via Northern European ports.

How a move from Norway works

  1. Free quote. Give us your departure address, your new home in Norway and a rough volume. We send an online estimate right away and a written quote within a day.
  2. Survey and planning. A coordinator confirms your volume and the transport mode, and reviews the customs rules that apply to your move to Norway.
  3. Packing and collection. A packing crew comes to your address, prepares every item and loads the truck or the container at your door.
  4. Transport. By road across Europe, or by sea container between continents — whichever best fits your route to Norway.
  5. Customs clearance (where required). When your route crosses a customs border, we file both sides: the Norway export and the import at your new country (Norwegian export declaration and import at destination).
  6. Delivery and set-up. Final-mile delivery to your door; unpacking and reassembly are added when your quote includes them.

A single point of contact handles your move from Norway from estimate to delivery.

How the price of your move from Norway is calculated

Your price from Norway is built from a handful of concrete variables, the same for every international mover:

  • Volume — the single biggest lever on the price, in m³. The online calculator walks you through it one room at a time.
  • Distance and route — measured on the actual road, from your door to your delivery address in Norway.
  • Transport mode — shared load, dedicated truck, sea container (shared or exclusive) or air freight.
  • Services — packing, taking furniture apart and reassembling it, crating fragile pieces, storage, island delivery.
  • Access — walk-up floors, pedestrian streets, long carries from the truck, and hoists where access is tight.
  • Customs — brokerage, declaration and port handling charges on routes to Norway that cross a customs border.
  • Insurance — calculated as a percentage of the declared value of your belongings.
