Before you leave Spain
- Deregister from your town hall — Ask your town hall to remove you from the municipal register (baja del padrón) once your departure date is set. It is often requested as proof that you have left Spain.
- Update your tax residency — Inform the Spanish Tax Agency of your change of address and tax residency. Leaving Spain mid-year can affect your tax obligations for that year, so check with an adviser if you have income or property in Spain.
- Close or transfer your contracts — Give notice on your rental agreement, utilities, internet and insurance. Keep the final bills: they also prove the date you left.
- Your Spanish-registered vehicle — If you take a Spanish car abroad, it will need to be registered in your new country. The Spanish registration is then cancelled for export with the traffic authority (DGT). Check the import rules of your destination before shipping it.
- Moving from the Canary Islands — The Canary Islands are outside the EU customs territory. A move from Tenerife or Gran Canaria — even to mainland Europe — involves export formalities. Tell us at quote stage.
Exporting your belongings from Spain
To another EU country: if Spain and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.
To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Spain on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.
Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.
Moves from Spain to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, the United States, Canada or any other non-EU country require an export declaration, which we file for you before departure.
How a move from Spain works
- Free quote. Share your origin, your delivery address in Spain and roughly how much you are moving. A written quote lands in your inbox within 24 hours.
- Survey and planning. Your coordinator rechecks the volume, locks the transport mode and lists the customs rules you fall under on your way to Spain.
- Packing and collection. Our local team packs, inventories and loads your belongings at your home in Spain.
- Transport. On the road for a European route, in a sea container across an ocean, or by air for small urgent shipments to Spain.
- Customs clearance (where required). Non-EU destinations get a two-sided customs file: we file the export from Spain and prepare the import at destination (Spanish export declaration for non-EU destinations).
- Delivery and set-up. Delivery to your new home, unpacking and furniture reassembly if included in your quote.
The same coordinator sees your move from Spain through, from your first email to the keys being handed over.

How the price of your move from Spain is calculated
Like every international mover, we build your price from Spain from a few concrete factors:
- Volume — the single biggest lever on the price, in m³. The online calculator walks you through it one room at a time.
- Distance and route — measured on the actual road, from your door to your delivery address in Spain.
- Transport mode — groupage, your own truck, shared or full container, air for urgent small shipments.
- Services — everything beyond pure transport: packing, dismantling, crating, short-term storage, extra legs by ferry.
- Access — walk-up floors, pedestrian streets, long carries from the truck, and hoists where access is tight.
- Customs — clearance fees and port handling charges, where required by your route to Spain.
- Insurance — priced as a percentage of what you tell us your belongings are worth.
Typical volumes, as a guide:
| Home | Typical volume |
|---|---|
| Studio | 10 to 15 m³ |
| 1-bedroom flat | 15 to 25 m³ |
| 2-bedroom home | 25 to 40 m³ |
| 3-bedroom home | 40 to 60 m³ |
| 4-bedroom house or larger | 60 m³ and more |
European road moves get a starting price straight from the estimator; everything else — sea, air, customs — is quoted in writing within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to deregister when I leave Spain?
- It is strongly recommended. Deregistering from your town hall's municipal register and updating your tax residency avoid problems later, and the certificate is often requested at destination as proof of your move.
- Is there any customs paperwork when moving from Spain to another EU country?
- No. Moves between EU countries involve no export declaration and no customs clearance.
- I am British and moving back to the UK from Spain. What do I need?
- Since Brexit, the move involves an export declaration in Spain, which we file, and an import into the UK. Apply for Transfer of Residence relief (ToR01) before your belongings arrive so they can enter duty-free.
- Can you collect from the Balearic or Canary Islands?
- Yes. The Balearic Islands follow mainland rules. The Canary Islands are outside the EU customs territory, so a move from there involves export formalities, even to mainland Europe.
- How long does a move from Spain take?
- To Portugal or France, a dedicated truck delivers within a few days. To the rest of Western Europe, usually within a week. To North America, allow six to twelve weeks by sea container.
