Before you leave Sweden
- Notify Skatteverket — If you plan to live outside Sweden for one year or more, you notify the Swedish Tax Agency of your move, at least one week before you leave.
- Your Swedish-registered vehicle — A car leaving Sweden for good is deregistered for export with the Swedish Transport Agency. Your new country then registers it under its own rules.
- Health insurance and social security — Check your entitlements with the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) and arrange health cover in your new country from your arrival date.
- Rental contract — Swedish rental contracts usually have a notice period of several months. Give notice early and keep the confirmation.
- Contracts and subscriptions — Cancel or transfer electricity, broadband, mobile and insurance contracts, and keep the final bills.
Exporting your belongings from Sweden
To another EU country: if Sweden and your destination are both in the EU, your belongings travel freely. There is no export declaration and no customs clearance.
To a country outside the EU: we file the export declaration in Sweden on your behalf. What matters most is the import side: whether your belongings enter your new country free of duty depends on that country's rules. Each destination guide explains them.
Wherever you are going, prepare a detailed inventory of your belongings. It is required at destination for almost every move outside the EU, and it is the basis of your insurance.
Moves from Sweden to Norway, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States, Canada or any other non-EU country require an export declaration, which we file before departure. Overseas containers usually leave from Gothenburg.
How a move from Sweden works
- Free quote. Give us your departure address, your new home in Sweden and a rough volume. We send an online estimate right away and a written quote within a day.
- Survey and planning. We validate the volume with you, pick the transport mode and go through the customs rules that apply on this route to Sweden.
- Packing and collection. A packing crew comes to your address, prepares every item and loads the truck or the container at your door.
- Transport. By road across Europe, or by sea container between continents — whichever best fits your route to Sweden.
- Customs clearance (where required). We prepare the export declaration in Sweden and the import file for your destination (Swedish export declaration for non-EU destinations).
- Delivery and set-up. Delivery to your new home, unpacking and furniture reassembly if included in your quote.
One coordinator follows your move from Sweden from the first call to the final delivery.

How the price of your move from Sweden is calculated
Your price from Sweden is built from a handful of concrete variables, the same for every international mover:
- Volume — the single biggest lever on the price, in m³. The online calculator walks you through it one room at a time.
- Distance and route — from your origin address to your new home in Sweden.
- Transport mode — groupage, your own truck, shared or full container, air for urgent small shipments.
- Services — packing, furniture dismantling and reassembly, fragile item crating, storage, delivery to an island.
- Access — floors without a lift, narrow streets, long carry distances or the need for an external lift.
- Customs — clearance fees and port handling charges, where required by your route to Sweden.
- Insurance — calculated as a percentage of the declared value of your belongings.
Typical volumes, as a guide:
| Home | Typical volume |
